Introduction

A desktop application called the Investment Portfolio Dashboard is designed to provide shareholders an in-depth view of their present state through data visualization. It aims to assist investors in making smart investments and reaching their financial goals. The objective of this project is to offer a framework for the user experience design phase of the Investment Portfolio Dashboard.

Problem

Investors struggle with controlling and analyzing their portfolios due to a lack of user-friendly solutions. The Investment Portfolio Dashboard consolidates and clearly displays all important data on one place to assist shareholders make informed investment decisions based on real-time data.

UX Research

The foundation of our UX research for the investment portfolio dashboard designing project was grounded in understanding the diverse needs and behaviors of selected user base, comprising both new and experienced investors. This user research process leveraged a combination of personal interviews and internet-based research to gather valuable insights about the users’ needs, fears, and expectations.

New Investor Insights:

Conducted an interview with a young investor who was new to the investing landscape. The data gathered from this conversation revealed a few critical insights:

  • Emotional Biases: The new investor expressed fear and apprehension about investing in new areas, highlighting the need for a tool that could support his emotional biases and provide confidence in decision-making.
  • User-Friendly Interface: A strong desire was expressed for a user-friendly tool that is intuitive to navigate, even for someone relatively unfamiliar with investment tools.
Seasoned Investor Preferences:
The research expanded to include the behaviors and preferences of seasoned investors, gathered through comprehensive internet-based research. This segment of users showed distinct patterns:
  • Customization: Experienced investors value the ability to personalize their investing dashboard according to their specific needs and investment strategies.
  • Design and Real-Time Updates: The importance of clean, uncluttered design and real-time data updates were emphasized as crucial elements for this user group.

By understanding these distinct user groups’ needs and preferences, I was able to shape the UX design strategy to create an investment portfolio dashboard that would cater to the diverse needs of the user base, providing value for both new and seasoned investors alike.
