The Product

Funpops is a poolside snack bar situated in a picturesque natural location. They provide tourists with a variety of snacks and allow them to create their meals. Funpops are marketed to anyone, regardless of age, who has distinct eating preferences and preferences. They allow individuals to personalise their food and enjoy their time at Funpops as if they were at home.

Project Duration

August 2022 to November 2022.

The Problem

The problem I wanted to solve with this project was that people with food allergies and vegetarians in particular don't have enough options in snack shops to make their food or meals fit their needs.

The Goal

This project aims to assist those with unique dietary preferences, such as allergies and vegetarians, who do not have sufficient options to modify their food or meals in snack stores.

User research: summary

I talked to the Funpops team several times to find out what they needed first. Then I talked to a few chosen users and made empathy maps to learn about the people I’m designing for and what they need. People who have to eat certain foods for personal reasons have been found to be the main group of users.

This user group made us understand their requirement more clearer by confirming that the purpose of designing a food order customization app is really helpful for them. They have introduced us a large group of food choices that a poolside snack bar can have to impress their customers. This research proved us that we always neglected people who has food allergies, vegans, vegetarians, people who hate some food flavours and many more from food ordering apps..

Less Vegan Food Choices

Food choices for vegan and vegetarian people are always limited. Even no any flexibility is given for them if they want to try a non vegan food with small customizations.

Get Affected by Food Allergies

People get affected by food allergies unknowingly due to less awareness about what’s including in their foods before they eat.

Can’t customize any food/ingredient

People who hate some spices or tastes can’t replace them by anything else when ordering food. They just have to look for another food item from menu.

Scared of eating from snack bars

Due to some bad food experiences some people are scared of eating from snack bars since the ingredients are not transparent for the customers.

Mapping David’s experience showed how helpful it would be for vegetarians and other people with their own food preferences to have a dedicated app for customizing food orders.

Effort spent on drafting each app screen’s iterations guarantees that the digital wireframes appropriately address user pain areas. During my research report, I prioritized the food selection and customization process to assist users in personalizing their meals prior to ordering.

After completing the digital wireframes, I developed a low-fidelity prototype. I integrated the key user flow of personalizing and ordering food so that the prototype could be utilized in a usability research. View the Funpop’s App low-fidelity prototype

Usability study: findings

With the selected individuals, I did two iterations of app usability testing. The findings from the initial study aided me in designing everything from wireframes to mockups. The second research utilized a high-fidelity prototype to determine which areas of the mockups required improvement.

Accessibility considerations

Increased the size of buttons and clickable areas to make those areas accessible for anyone easily.
Demonstrated food toppings with clear images and readable text underneath the image as a help for people who can’t identify the image clearly.
Used high contrast colors and clear spaces in between texts, UI elements and images to make readability and image recognition easier for everyone.
